Semois Kayak Guide

Discover everything you need to know to navigate one of Belgium's most beautiful rivers

Navigation Conditions on the Semois

The quality of navigation conditions on the Semois depends mainly on the river's flow rate. This factor influences not only the difficulty of the rapids but also the water depth and current strength.

Very Fast (Flow > 100 m³/s)

These conditions are reserved for experienced kayakers. Rapids are very powerful, and currents can be dangerous.

Semois with high flow rate

Fast (50-100 m³/s)

Ideal conditions for intermediate kayakers. Rapids are less powerful but remain exciting.

Semois with medium flow rate

Moderate (20-50 m³/s)

Ideal for beginner kayakers. Rapids are less powerful, and currents are weaker.

Semois with moderate flow rate

Very Low (Flow < 20 m³/s)

Ideal conditions for beginners. Rapids are very weak, and currents are slow.

Semois with low flow rate

To choose your route, it is important to consider several factors:

  • Your kayak level - honestly assess your abilities

We were able to enjoy this day thanks to the lady at the kayak bar! Without knowing it, we hadn't booked. She found a last minute solution! Top thanks again! Thanks to her and also to the drivers who brought us back.

Magnificent canoe descent (17km), the service is very good, we wait little even at arrival thanks to the driver and his wife who willingly answer our questions and calls. In addition, the small cafe with terrace is very pleasant. The night at the campsite was perfect.
